This recreation center was the 1st public sports facility in OA's portfolio. A consortium of 5 individuals floated an idea to set up a Recreation centre, first of its kind in Thoothukudi. The design was conceptualized keeping in mind simple functionality and a segregation of outdoor and indoor activities through a balance between the built and unbuilt form. The swimming pool, raised from the ground level based on the area's water table, is one of the center's main attractions; the skating rink is another. A curvilinear building was conceptualized facing the swimming pool to accommodate indoor games and this building had a circular tower with a domical skylight at the corner to house the staircase within & also served as a medium to elevate the signage.
